Venus Fields came into the GCSS community extremely troubled. Her disruptive, and at times, aggressive behavior prohibited her participation in a day program. Working with The Behavior Support Team (BST), Venus has completely turned her life around. Today, Venus has a part-time job (one she found on her own) and is living, happily and comfortable with a family. She even had the opportunity to travel to Germany, Austria and Switzerland on a family vacation! When she returned, like any world-traveler would, she shared her experiences abroad and stories of all the fun she had. GCSS was there to provide the support she needed but it was Venus who worked so hard to create a rewarding life for herself in her community. We’re truly proud of her accomplishments.

Robbie was passionate about becoming a successful businessman and was not going to let his dream be derailed by his disability. In 2006, he came to Our Place in Conyers and, after a brief adjustment period and support from GCSS, saw an opportunity to realize his dream. He started his snack business with a cooler full of soft drinks, chips, crackers, and sweets. Within in a year Robbie created a successful and thriving business. In 2007, Robbie retired his cooler, purchased both a soda and a snack machine and established Robbie’s Bulldog Snack Shack. Robbie, the passionate businessman, is now looking for other locations to expand his thriving Bulldog Snack Shack business. We are very proud of Robbie and his accomplishments.

Estranged from his mother and sister for over three years, medically and mentally unstable, Tavoris came to GCSS’ H.O.S.T. program in 2006. He represented quite an emotional and medical stability challenge. However, through GCSS’ Crisis Respite, Tavoris received intense clinical supports, individualized residential services and one on one social skill needed to reconnect with his mother. This reconnection led to the greatest of reunions when Tavoris flew to Chicago with his mother this past August to attend his sister’s wedding. We are very proud of Tavoris and happy for the family.
